six traits that distinguish inclusive leaders

A couple of days ago I wrote about leaders inaccurately estimating how inclusive they are.

The same study* showed that leaders couldn't identify which specific behaviors actually have an impact on being rated as more or less inclusive.

So today a bit more about the six traits or behaviors that distinguish inclusive leaders from others and how to start working on developing those.

One can’t become an inclusive leader not knowing what it actually means for their daily practice.

If your leaders have a difficulty to identify their level of inclusivity, I’d advice to:

🔹 Run a survey so that they can learn how they are perceived by their teams

🔹 Support them in feeling comfortable seeking feedback on them being inclusive

🔹 Set clear expectations how DEI applies to their role as a leader

🔹 Embed the inclusiveness as one of the factors that plays a role in their annual review

🔹 Invest in their training so they can understand better what inclusion means in their daily practice

Would love to hear about your experiences with leaders. What kind of support you think they need in order to be more inclusive?
