strategies to lead empathically

Empathic leadership is vital in today’s #workplace and it's also expected as a standard by employees.

Some #managers believe they must make a choice: be empathic and sacrifice their personal well-being for the good of others, or step back to preserve their own emotional health.

Getting stuck in this dilemma is not a solution, sustainable empathy. Below you’ll find 3 strategies for managers to lead empathically while maintaining equilibrium.

Look at today’s carrousel for examples on how narratives for sustainable empathy could look like.

Three strategies for sustainable empathy:

1️⃣ Self-Compassion and Emotional Regulation:

Practice self-compassion by being aware of personal emotions, acknowledging them, and by creating boundaries to prevent #burnout.

2️⃣ Empathic Tuning:

Distinguish between emotional #empathy (feeling others' emotions) and empathic concern (wanting to help others). In challenging situations, focus on empathic concern and keep emotional empathy in check, to maintain emotional balance and prevent being overwhelmed by others' distress.

3️⃣ Mindful Empathy Development:

Empathy is a #skill that can be developed rather than a fixed trait – become more aware of how you express empathy and balance emotional engagement with the long-term well-being of others.
