DEI work - where does it really start?
DEI change involves equipping people in knowledge and that often translates into multi-modules training programs on #unconsciousbias, #inclusivelanguage, #microaggressions, to name a few.
And we need that, expanding awareness is key to behavioral change.
I believe however that where the real work starts and when it starts to bring results, is when we get into ᴅᴀɪʟʏ habits and acts of learning.
And 𝘶𝘯𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨.
Approaching learning from a #dei perspective is a lot about:
🔹 re-wiring your brain
🔹 taking a step back in your assumptions
🔹 meditating on the opposite thought
If you want to change the culture, get into routine of questioning standpoints in a safe environment.
Questions that can help with this:
🔹 How do I know this?
🔹 Is this true?
🔹 What are the facts?
🔹 What if it's not true?
🔹 What if the opposite was true?
The level of discomfort the answers to these questions bring can be a source of knowledge about our areas of growth.
