Punt Kick — Shaping DEI Competency — Dora Küntzel

How to rewire your brain?

Approaching learning from a DEI perspective is about re-wiring your brain, about unlearning, taking a step back in your assumptions and meditating on the opposite thought.

Questions that can help with this:

🔹 How do I know this?
🔹 Is this true? What are the facts?
🔹 What if it's not true?

For example:

When we feel tempted to assign certain traits to a group, like a tendency to close themselves off from other communities, it is useful to ask the above questions, see the broader context and checkout the facts.

Like this one:

"Few in Germany remember that Turkish guest workers were ordered to live in designated neighborhoods. In Berlin in the districts of Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Wedding, Schöneberg. [...] They had a special stamp affixed to their passports, which signified a ban on renting an apartment outside the designated zones. The ban was not lifted until 1989."
