I’m not embracing equity…

A couple of days ago I wasn’t wearing my glasses and it resulted in me misreading the popular “Il dolce far niente” slogan on another women’s T-shirt, as ‘Il dolce 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧 niente’.

I loved that accidental twist and I choose it for my today’s International Women’s Day slogan.

I’m choosing it instead of the theme for #iwd2023 this year #embraceequity and I choose the superheroine pose instead of the encouraged “hug yourself” pose.

There are probably different ways to interpret 𝘌𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘌𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘺 but I can’t help my first association and my response to it: I’m not embracing equity, as from where I stand, there is no equity to be embraced.

The World Economic Forum report says we will need still a hundred years to reach gender equity.

🔹 We have a ∼ 17% pay gap

🔹 In Polish school books, only 24% are female authors

🔹 At Polish universities, only 18-19% of women reach the professor degree, even though there are 45% of female PhD students

These are just 3 facts out of hundreds and daily experiences of women and I'm not even starting on Polish women's rights.

I believe we can reach a more equitable world but not through encouraging women to hug themselves or push themselves for more, but by pushing for systems to change.

Equity is to be expected and demanded not asked for and women should be fearlessly reaching for it.

Shoutout to all amazing women who encourage me to consistently 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚 <3
